Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has rubbished claims that he manages and decides the people who visit his father, retired President Daniel Moi, at his Kabarak home in Nakuru.

This is after Deputy President William Ruto's visit in May was blocked and his attempts to meet the former President rendered futile, forcing him to go back after hours of waiting.

Ruto's allies would later heap the blame on Gideon, accusing him of managing the DP's humiliation by deliberately blocking the meeting over their political differences.

But in an interview with the Standard on Saturday, Gideon distanced himself from the allegations.

“And I have to correct this misconception lest it spills over into the new year. Mzee has got his own comptroller and his aides who see after his welfare. No one has to come through me,” he said.

He was speaking at their Kabarnet Gardens home in Nairobi.

The issue has since cooled down but remains one of the most popular political happenings of 2018, considering that all the other leaders who visited the President met him.

Ruto's visit came only weeks after an earlier one by opposition leader Raila Odinga on April 12 and followed by a similar one by Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho months later.

Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) leader Kalonzo Musyoka followed suit on November 16, with all the meetings being termed a follow up on Moi's health.
