Laikipia Women Representative Cate Waruguru has said that leaders from the Mt Kenya region have been associating with the Deputy President William Ruto because they want development.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Waruguru noted that the second in command has been tasked with overseeing the implementation of different projects in the country, and leaders cannot avoid him.
“We do not politic about 2022, rather we respond to our critics and opponents who have a habit of bashing us every now and then. The reason why Mount Kenya people and I have an association with the DP is because the president named him to be his handyman,” she said.
The remarks come after President Uhuru Kenyatta warned leaders against politicking at the expense of development.
Addressing the Annual General Conference of the Akurinu Churches Assembly, at Kasarani, President Kenyatta said that he will not tolerate leaders who are not ready to serve the people.
He reminded leaders to concentrate on matters of development if they want to remain relevant in the political arena.
"Our unity is our strength and foundation for building a strong nation. A nation that will be able to achieve its development targets so that the children of our children will remember that there was a time when Kenyans forgot tribalism, stopped corruption, and built a country that provided jobs for the youth, drugs in hospitals and ensured no Kenyan slept hungry.
"We must learn to forgive one another, let us focus on the future instead of dwelling on the past," he said as quoted by Nation.
