Jubilee party will hold party primaries in 2022 to ascertain its flag bearer in presidential elections, Deputy President William Ruto has said.
In what seems to be a contrast to his 2017 slogan where he presented himself as automatic candidate in 2022, Ruto now says his luck is anchored on party members.
“I am not an automatic candidate for Jubilee. I will contest with those who may wish to join the race thus my candidature is not guaranteed.
“Should I lose the race, I will support whoever who wins. There is democracy in the party and whoever can join the race,” he argued in an interview with NTV on Sunday.
His sentiments comes at the time Jubilee is undergoing serious internal wrangles that have threatened to curtail relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
On whether he will depend on President Uhuru’s Central Kenya support base, Ruto insisted that he will present himself based on track record in various portfolios he has held.
“I don’t depend on anyone’s support. I will present myself based on track record as MP, minister and Deputy President,” he said.
