An MP has revealed that the Rift Valley wanted to back Raila Odinga for president in 2013.
Kuresoi North MP Moses Cheboi passionately narrated how Deputy President William Ruto had a hard time convincing the region to team up with Uhuru Kenyatta.
By then the Rift Valley was in United Republican Party (URP) while Kenyatta led the Mt Kenya region in The National Alliance (TNA).
Speaking in Kigumo during the burial of area MP’s mother, Cheboi recollected the events of 2013.
“His Excellency I remember the hard time you heard trying to convince our people to go to the mountain. People felt it was very heard to pump water upstream but you really tried and convinced them. You even said it is better we buy a pump and help pump the water upstream because you believed in Uhuru when other wanted us to go the lake way,” Cheboi said.
The MP said the working of Uhuru and Ruto has ensured there is peace in Kuresoi and Molo and therefore urged them to continue working.
“We now have peace and we want you to give this peace for the next 20 years,” Cheboi said.
Another MP from the Ruto camp told this writer that the Kalenjin community wanted Ruto to team up with Raila in 2013.
“The community felt Raila would only serve for five years and then endorse Bill (DP Ruto). They were reluctant, saying the Mt Kenya community is not trusted politically,” he said.
