The deceased, Ethan Muendo, is reported to have suffered a burn on the hand inflicted by hot water from a dispenser on Saturday night.

A nurse at the hospital is said to have given him an injection to relieve pain.

"The burn was not serious so we gave him first aid and decided to take him to the hospital on Sunday morning," said Juliana Mutheu, the deceased's mother.

"At the hospital, a nurse told me she will give him an injection to relieve pain before washing and dressing the hand," she added.

Mutheu told journalists that after the boy was attended to, they were allowed to go home. She, however, claims that while at home she noticed that the child appeared weak.

"I called the hospital and explained that the baby was getting weaker and I was told that it's the effect of the injection and that he would be fine. I was told to wait until 1 pm to see if there will be any change," she said.

Mutheu stated that the baby couldn't suckle so she took him to the same hospital where he was taken to the emergency wing.

"That was the last time I saw my son alive, we were told to go outside only to be told he had died," she said.

The deceased's father, Jonathan Musau is now demanding justice for his son.

Police have commenced investigations into the incident. The nurse who administered the injection was taken in for questioning at the Machakos Police Station.

The body was taken to Montezuma Monalisa mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Efforts to get a comment from the hospital's administration proved futile as journalists were denied access to the facility.
