In a tweet Friday, the lawmaker noted with concern that members of the community have been left largely left out on such matters which calls for their inclusion.

He termed them an important faction of the Kenyan society, terming it time they were entrusted with the job of maintaining law and order.

"Why dont we have Kenyan Indians serving in our security agencies? Isnt it time we harnessed the resources from this significant member of our society?" he wrote.

Currently, members of the Indian community are not kneon to be involved in any state jobs, only associated with businesses and such ventures.

The community was in July 2017 adopted as the 44th Kenyan drive after years of pushing to be considered Kenyans and stop being treated as foreigners.

The declaration was made through a presidential proclamation contained in the special gazette issue of July 21, 2017 and the announcement was made by Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i.

This followed a May 2017 petition to President Uhuru Kenyatta where the group requested for formal recognition.
