President Uhuru Kenyatta has hailed the African Union (AU) for handing former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga as its High Representative on Infrastructure Development.

In his State of the Nation address on Thursday at the Parliamentary buildings, Uhuru said that the news of the ODM leader will benefit not only Kenya but also the entire African continent.  

He also said that he will not end his newfound love with the Luo political kingpin for the sake of the development of this nation.

“In line with the spirit of Pan Africanism, I wish to extend our gratitude to the African Union for appointing one of our own to spearhead infrastructural connectivity across the Continent,” Uhuru said as quoted by Daily Nation.

The commander in chief of the armed forces also pledged to continue with the fight against corruption before he completes his second and final term in office. 

He warned politicians and the general public against looting what belongs to the taxpayers. The president also promised to deliver on all his promises before he leaves power. 

The head of state also highlighted the Small Micro Finance and Enterprises (SMEs) as some of the areas he will support to empower Kenyans. He also highlighted plans in health and infrastructure among other areas.
