More than 30 families in Kasarani slum in Elburgon, Nakuru County, were left homeless after a fire razed their homes and properties on Thursday.
The fire, whose cause is yet to be established, is said to have started at around 2 am.
Area chief Stephen Mwangi said nothing was salvaged from the houses.
“Most of the residents woke up to rooms full of smoke. They were not able to fight the fire or save their property,” said Mwangi.
The fire spread quickly since the homes were wooden houses, some of them built 10 years ago.
The losses incurred are estimated at Sh5 million.
Residents said some youths took advantage of the situation and looted the property from the houses on fire during the incident.
