Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi now wants the looming constitutional amendments to be done with the sole intention of benefitting the common citizen.

This comes amid an ongoing debate about the amendment proposals made by the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) task force, which were launched at the Bomas of Kenya last month.

Speaking on Saturday, Mudavadi said that the changes should not be about fulfilling the political goals of a few politicians, but should rather be about making life better for Kenyans.

About whether the BBI report should be taken back to Kenyans for approval or not, he said that any would do, as long as what is contained in the final document is all about Kenyans.

"Whether the commendations will originate from the BBI or elsewhere, the direction should be about addressing the needs of the common citizen (Ikiwa mawazo yatayoka kwa BBI ama wapi mwelekeo lazima iwe ambayo italenga maslahi ya mwananchi wa kawaida)," he said.

He spoke in an interview with Citizen TV.

The former Vice President said that politicians should try to come out clean on this one and should not be seen as chasing after personal gains.

"Let us not be seen as politicians who are selfish all the time (Tusionekane kama wanasiasa ambao kila mara ni kujitakia tu)," he added.
