The lawmaker, in a tweet on Thursday, said that while public officers should be using their offices to serve Kenyans, others are using their offices to oppress others.

He stated that this goes against the vision Kenyan freedom fighters had for the country during their struggle for independence and must come to an end.

According to the youthful parliamentarian, the same way Kenyans fought off the colonialists, such people, whom he claimed have emulated the ways of the colonialists, will be fought.

"The strength we as Kenyans used to fight the colonialists, we will use it to fight those Kenyans in public offices who seem to have mastered dictatorial tendencies of colonial masters. They oppress fellow Kenyans with little respect to the struggle for independence," the MP said in a tweet.

Barasa made the remarks as the country celebrated Jamhuri Day, the day the country officially became a republic some 56 years ago.

The main celebrations were headed by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Nyayo Stadium in the capital of Nairobi, with governors presiding over the celebrations in their counties.
