Sonko, who was then the senator, was tasked to read the speech of the President but he went ahead to declare himself the President. The crowd cheered while some booed at the senator as he made the shocking statement.

“Rais Uhuru is in Togo, his Deputy President William Ruto ako France. I am number three in command politically influence-wise and socially. I am now the acting president of the Republic of Kenya,” shouted Sonko.

The master of ceremony requested the politician to cut his speech but he refused thereby causing more drama at the event.

“Hapana shika mimi. Takataka nyinyi, ghasia nyinyi. Msituletee, kwendeni kabisa huko. Kwenda kabisa. Kwenda kabisa!” he keeps shouting.

Sonko, who is known for controversies, continued with his speech even after the request. After the ceremony, a section of Kenyans asked for the arrest of the governor of what they termed as treason.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, however, watered down the statement of the senator, saying it was meaningless. The governor was not arrested decide calls from different factions following the declaration.
