A man is nursing serious injuries after he was publicly caned for beating up his wife on Tuesday at Borangi village in Ebiosi, Nyacheki in Kisii County.
Ambrose Okundi, was given several strokes of the cane by his brothers-in-law who accused him of beating up their sister.
“Okundi is fond of beating up our sister, Stella, for no good reason. He did beat her up on Monday and sent her away only to come for her on Tuesday. We forced him to lie down and gave him several strokes of the cane,” said Erick Onyancha.
Okundi who was accompanied by a group of elders and his mother begged for forgiveness and promised that he will never beat his wife again.
“I love Stella, a mother to my 2 kids. I promise I will never beat her up again and will respect her until death parts us,” he said.
After the thorough caning and intervention from elders, Okundi was allowed to reunite with his wife but the elders warned him against pointing a finger at her.
Peter Chomba, an elder said they will not accompany the man next time if he beats up his wife.
“Let this be the last meeting we are holding to talk about you (Okundi) beating your wife. You will carry your own cross next time,” he noted.
