The two, a second year and a third year were said to have been heading back to their rooms at the stage when the attack happened.

According to one of the students who sought anonymity, two men who had disguised themselves as static features suddenly jumped out of their hideouts and wrestled her to the ground.

"I was making a call to a friend of mine when they suddenly appeared from the bush. They did not go for my friend but instead, they targeted me. I guess it is because I was holding the phone," she narrated.

Efforts of the two to call for help were futile as nobody was around the place at the time of the attack. The thugs managed to rob the students their mobile phones and ran away.

"We were lucky they did not do anything to us except stealing the phones. But we were afraid that if we did not have the phone, they would have probably done something else," said the other lady.

On the same night, two first years were allegedly caught stealing laptops at Songwo apartments at the school.

Insecurity has been on high alert at Moi University especially after the recent admission of first-year students.
