Kenya's most successful industrialist Manu Chandaria has opened up on his personal details not known to many people.
The billionaire entrepreneur said although he had accumulated a lot of wealth, he lived a simple life as he was a follower of the teachings of former Indian activist Mahatma Gandhi who advocated for equality and justice in the society.
"I followed Mahatma Gandhi while at the University. His ways were those of a simple life," he said.
Speaking during Citizen TV's JKL show, Chandaria shocked Kenyans when he revealed that he constantly owns five pairs of suits in his closet.
"I have 5 suits in my wardrobe. If I buy one, I give out another. I have at least 3 jackets," declared Chandaria adding that he also owns a single watch which he acquired 65 years ago.
The 90-year-old industrialist is the owner of Comcraft Limited which produces iron sheets and kitchenware from steel and aluminium.
He is also the brains behind Ruiru-based Mabati Rolling Mills and Kaluworks Ltd.
Chandaria said he started his foundation, Chandaria Foundation, 62 years ago to cultivate the spirit of giving among people as a way of helping the needy in the society.
"Giving is simple when you want to give. It's easy to give when you feel the pain of others. I give a lot and live a very simple life," he added.
The entrepreneur is the founder of Chandaria Business Innovation and Incubation Centre in Kenyatta University which was launched in 2014 to support new and innovative ideas from students.
