Majority of people have found that it is more profitable to depend on the business of whichever kind as a self-employed person.

Ann Oduor, a 20-year-old tomato vendor who resides in Kibera fall into this category of business people after she dropped out of school in the year 2013 while she was in form two due to lack of school fees.

"My parents had no money to pay for the school fees and I decided to start tomato business where we can earn income though I had no capital," Ann said.

"I looked for a casual job but I managed to secure from my mother's friend identified as Joan who was buying and selling various kind of vegetables from wholesale, she introduced me to his business where I worked as her helper," Ann revealed.

After one year, Ann had saved enough money and with the experience, she got from his mother's friend Joan, she decided to move and start her own business where she concentrated on selling tomatoes.

"It was not easy to conduct such a business but with the passion I had and the risk that I took as an entrepreneur, I was able to make profit," Ann said.

She usually sells a total of one crate of tomatoes each day. She packs her tomatoes in a small bags made up of nets each having 10 tomatoes and sold them at a price of sh50 making a profit of sh3,000 daily.

"I always sell my tomatoes near stages and during market days at different places and hoping to expand my business and built my own wholesale in future," Ann said.

She usually saves a little amount of money and uses the rest to cater for their daily expenses with his parents.
