Kangundo MP Fabian Kyule told the locals to instead come out in large numbers and register for the program ahead of its launch by the president in  early December.

Kyule said the program will be of great help to the residents since the burden of settling high medical bills in public health facilities across the county will be a thing of the past.

"Machakos, Isiolo, Nyeri and Kisumu counties will benefit from this program. Residents shouldn't take chances, come out in numbers and register," Kyule said.

He addressed the public during the Universal Health Coverage program registration launch at Kivaani Health Centre in Kangundo, Machakos County on Saturday.

Kyule said the program will be of great help to the residents since the burden of high medical bills will be no more.

He urged both residents and local leaders to desist from politicizing the noble program.

The MP lamented that despite the fact that Kenyans went to the ballot one year ago, politics is still the order of the day in Machakos unlike other counties.

"You won't hear about politics if you go to other counties, leaders are busy delivering services to their electorates. But in Machakos County, it is all about politics day in day out," Kyule said.

Kyule said although health is devolved, the national government should take up some functions in the sector to lessen the burden on county governments.

"Wage bill inachapa county governments, national government should chip in and take up some functions like in Level 5 and 4 Hospitals in the counties," Kyule said.

The ceremony was graced by Health CS Cisily Kariuki and hosted by both Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and county commissioner Abdullahi Galgalo.
