Nominated Amani National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament Geoffrey Osotsi has weighed in on the ongoing tussle between the government and a slew of betting firms.
Speaking on Tuesday at Serena Hotel to members of the press, the outspoken legislator warned that he would not allow AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia to suffer from the tussle.
A betting firm which sponsors both teams, powerhouses of Kenyan football, withdrew its support following the suspension of its licence.
Osotsi called on Interior and Coordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i to follow the law in cracking down on the betting industry.
"So we are asking that Matiang'i please if it is following the law follow the law and those companies which have complied with the law give them back their licences so that they continue operating.
"But we will not allow AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia to die because of someone mismanaging the sector," the nominated MP said.
CS Matiang'i had said that the companies whose licenses were suspended had not complied fully with the law but the companies maintain that they have done so.
Osotsi warned that the stalemate between the government and the firms would spell doom for the sports industry.
