The President of the United States of America Donald Trump has reacted to the storming of the American embassy in Baghdad by irate Iraqi protesters.
Mr Trump put the blame for the attack squarely on the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Guardian newspaper has reported.
He warned that Iran would be held fully responsible for the incident that saw staff and the US ambassador quickly evacuated to safety.
“Iran killed an American contractor, wounding many. We strongly responded, and always will,” Trump tweeted as quoted by the USA Today publication.
“Now Iran is orchestrating an attack on the US Embassy in Iraq. They will be held fully responsible," the US president added.
Iran is locked in a vicious diplomatic row with the US cranked up by the Trump administration's move to scrap a nuclear deal that was struck under the previous Obama administration.
The US has heightened the pressure on Iran in a bid to get it to renegotiate the nuclear deal.
Protesters staged a demonstration outside the American embassy to express their anger over a Sunday airstrike that led to the deaths of 25 members of a local Shia group.
The airstrike was in retaliation to the killing of an American contractor which happened at an Iraqi military base.
