Albert Muchorwa, a bodaboda rider on Friday told a court that he unknowingly transported a woman's corpse thinking it was firewood at Hamisi in Vihiga County.
Muchorwa was testifying in a murder case where Francis Lusava Muhitsi is being accused of killing Ruth Khacheya Ngaira.
The rider, as reported by the Standard, told the court that on 7 December 2018, while going home after work, he met Lusava, his neighbour who asked him to help him carry some firewood to a certain location.
The firewood was loaded in a gunny bag. He loaded it on his motorcycle and transported it to the agreed location.
However, when they arrived at a thicket, Luvasa told him to stop and offload his firewood.
The following morning, news hit him that he had carried a corpse the previous night. He rushed to the scene and actually found the firewood there with the corpse.
Micah Ngaira, the deceased father, told the court that his daughter had gone missing for a week.
He said that he got a call from his son about a body resembling that of Ruth.
“I rushed to the scene and confirmed that indeed she was my daughter. She looked like she had been burnt with acid and her lips, ears and nose cut off. Her eyes had been gorged out so we reported the matter to the police,” said Ngaira as quoted by Standard.
He also told the court that his daughter had previously been assaulted by the accused. The two were cohabiting together but Lusava used to mistreat her.
Various items pinning the suspect to the murder were found in his house and his compound.
Hearing for the case continues on December 9, 2019.
