Detectives from the office of the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have impounded 500 kilogrammes of narcotic dry miraa at the Jomo Kenyatta Airport (JKIA) Nairobi.
The drug had been concealed as tea packets for export to the United States of America (USA), Australia, and Austria before the detectives impounded the same.
The traffickers had put them in 52 packers before transferring them as green stevia tea.
The Kenya Revenue Authority has also confirmed the seizure of the drugs.
“500Kgs of Narcotic ‘Dry Khat’-packed in 52 bags-concealed as Tea Packets, sent by various Exporters and destined to #UnitedStates, #Australia & Austria was intercepted yesterday by @DCI_Kenya Detectives during screening at #JKIA. @KRACare had issued a Seizure Notice on the goods,” tweeted the office of the DCI.
The office of the DCI has been keen on rooting out criminal activities in the country ranging from drug trafficking to corruption.
Last week the detectives impounded Heroin worth millions airlifted from Nigeria.
The drugs had been hidden as lip gloss.
