An interview pitting Jubilee leaders Samson Cherargei (Nandi Senator) and Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu was on Sunday turned into a heated mudslinging duel, as the leaders engaged each other in a heated argument.
The two who were speaking on Citizen Television's 'The Big Question' completely failed to agree on the hot lifestyle audit debate, which has seen the Jubilee Party split right at the middle with one side backing and the other opposing the audit.
Cherargei echoed Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen's recent claims implicating President Uhuru Kenyatta's allies in a scheme to use the audit to spoil Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, openly linking Wambugu to the plot.
"Wambugu is representing faceless people working behind the scenes to frustrate Ruto's 2022 bid," said the senator.
However, in a quick rejoinder, Ngunjiri who is on the President's side defended himself, hitting back by accusing Cherargei and a section of leaders allied Ruto of sabotaging Uhuru's operations.
This, he said, is courtesy of their premature campaigns for Ruto's bid, noting that the same is denying the President the much needed time to finalise on his development projects, as he seeks to leave a legacy.
"This is the problem with the Tangatanga squad which is already campaigning four years in advance. I refuse to be part of the group undermining the President by embarking on campaigns 4 years in advance," said the lawmaker.
The exchange also saw Cherargei accuse Wambugu of working in cohorts with other anti Uhuruto individuals to frame both leaders at the International Criminal Court (ICC) before the 2013 election.
Wambugu, who was on the opposing Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) side at the time rubbished the claims, noting that he was actually in the front line advocating for the duo's acquittal.
