Saturday turned perhaps the most tragic day for academicians, scholars and lovers of literature following the death of Professor David Rubadiri.
Known for his excellence in writing poems, novels and plays, Rubadiri died aged 88, marking the abrupt end of a guru, celebrated by his peers.
And his famous granddaughter, Victoria Rubadiri took on social media to mourn her role model.
"This literary giant now rests. Prof. David Rubadiri breathed his last today, but his words continue to inspire so many across this great continent.
"His legacy is one I could never live up to. The name he gave me is one I will continue to carry with pride. Rest in peace Babu," she wrote.
The Malawian born scholar is not a stranger in East Africa given that he was among pioneer students of prestigious Makerere University in Uganda.
He also married from Rwanda and Uganda making him an international citizen.
Most of his life, he settled in Kenya where he penned down his literary work that thrilled fans across Africa.
Among his classmates in Makerere were President Mwai Kibaki, Prof. Nyachieo Bogonko and Prof. Anyang'Nyong'o.
