ODM MPs have accused Deputy President William Ruto of lying on the state of hunger in the country.
The MPs, during a press briefing at parliament buildings on Thursday, faulted the DP over his statement on Tuesday that no person has died in the country as a result of hunger.
"We are appalled by DP Ruto's statements. By saying deaths is fake news, and govt officials are confirming it, then you are a fake DP,” Suna East MP Mohammed Junet said.
The legislators said the government is not serious in dealing with drought in the country.
This comes amid reports in various counties, such as Turkana and West Pokot of people who have reportedly died due to hunger pangs.
West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo said two people have died in his county as a result of hunger.
The DP, however, said news of deaths were fake.
“There is a lot of fake news about what is happening. We have been told that 11 people have died but that is not true. No one has died as a result of the drought and we are working round the clock to ensure that no one dies of hunger,” Ruto said.
