Missing body of a first student at the University of Mombasa found was finally found in coast general hospital mortuary.
As reported by the daily nation, Timothy Mwirigi, a First-Year Civil Engineering student went missing after visiting his friend Samuel Gacheri at the hostel at 8.30 pm on Saturday never showed up again.
After a thorough searching in hospitals by his friends, Mwirigis body was found decomposed at coast general hospital mortuary
Gacheri, one of his close friend said that the deceased left them and promise to come back shortly but never showed up. They mounted a search in school and hostel where they thought he could be but all was in vain where they decided to report the matter to the university security department.
“When he left, we waited for long and assumed he had gone to his house at Kaa Chonjo,” said Gacheri.
Mwirigi's disappearance was then taken to the University Dean of Students Joel Owino who took the matter seriously and reported the matter to Makupa Police Station on January 21, 2020
“Our search in hospitals around the school but were unsuccessful until we reached Coast General Hospital Mortuary where we found his body,” said Mr Owino.
The decomposed state of the deceased body indicates that the body had stayed in salty water for some time before taken to the mortuary. Police also revealed that there was an identified body that was sported on Tuesday at the shore of Indian Ocean
The cause of Timothy Mwirigi's death has not yet established as police officers investigations continue. Timothy Mwirigi was the second Engineering student to lose his life in a mysterious way at the institution.
Last year in October, another body of Caleb Kiplangat was found dead in Junda, Kisauni Sub County who had joined the university in September 2019.
