Third Way Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot and his brigade on Thursday landed in the Nyanza region, in line with the party’s push for constitutional reforms.
Aukot is leading a referendum push seeking to reduce the number of elective seats in an attempt to reduce the nation’s wage bill, in a campaign dubbed ‘Punguza Mizigo’.
Consequently, the leader who appeared a distant second in the October 26, 2017 presidential repeat election race on Thursday visited several parts of the county in search of Kenyan’s backing for the same.
In a tweet on the party handle, Aukot who began in Kisumu Town announced a successful campaign, before proceeding to Homa Bay and Sondu Towns in Homabay and Kisumu counties respectively.
‘’Today we take #PunguzaMizigo initiative to Homa Bay County .Thank you Kisumu County for your endorsement yesterday,’’ he said early on Friday.
‘’#PunguzaMizigo in Sondu, Nyakach .We are going everywhere and speaking to everyone .On our way to Oyugis,’’ reads the second tweet.
In his proposal, Aukot is seeking the removal of Women Representative seats, and instead the introduction of two lawmakers, a man and a woman per every county.
His push, however, is in contravention with another one headed by opposition leader Raila Odinga’s camp which is seeking the reduction of counties through mergers and the expansion of the executive arm of government.
