Speaking to the Sunday Nation, Shinali said four other family members were travelled with him to Nairobi after attending a funeral at his home.

According to him, they were treated and discharged in Kapsabet after the accident, which saw the bonnet of his vehicle completely dismantled.

“We were travelling back to Nairobi when the accident happened. The oncoming matatu rammed into our vehicle as we tried to escape in vain,” Mr Shinali said.

“We have been examined and doctors have confirmed that we are safe. We will continue with our journey to Nairobi after recording statements with the police,” he said.

The MP had on Friday attended the funeral of his son Chris Masaka, who served in the US Army. Mr Masaka drowned in the US, Arizona State.

Earlier, there were conflicting reports about the identity of occupants of the vehicle at the time of accident. Butere MP Tindi Mwale, who was first to report the accident, gave scanty details.

"Ikolomani constituency's MP Hon. Shinali's Landcruiser involved in an accident along Kapsabet Mau Summit Road. Pole Sana to Mheshimiwa and the occupants. Quick recovery to those injured," he said.

Shinali is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, who also attended the Friday's funeral. Ruto is keenly working with Shinali to win Western Kenya region.
