Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua could retain his seat if Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka imposes a running mate on former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti.
Speaking during an interview at his Tala home in Matungulu Sub County on Thursday, Muthama asked Kalonzo to let the people decide on who should deputize Ndeti in case of a by-election.
He noted that forcing former East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Peter Muthuki to be his running mate would be a grave mistake when that time comes
"Our party leader should remain a party leader and allow us the people of Machakos space and freedom to choose who will be Wavinya’s running mate in case a by-election is ordered," Muthama said.
Muthama said he looks forward to the case where the people of the county will have a say in the leadership, adding that their voice really matters.
Mutua and Ndeti are likely to go back to the ballot if the incumbent loses the case at the Supreme Court.
Both candidate are confident that they will win the case at the highest court in the nation.
Mutua had, earlier on, faulted the Court of Appeal for misinterpreting the finding of his case. He has maintained that he won the election in a free and fair manner.
