Embattled Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu doubled down on his stance that he is still the governor in spite of his deputy's move to declare himself governor.
Governor Waititu told members of the press on Sunday after attending a church servive that Dr James Nyoro would have to be gazetted first to have executive powers.
"You cannot do the job that you are saying should be done by the deputy if he has not been gazetted. You have to be gazetted to get the power to do those things (Huwezi fanya hiyo kazi unajaribu kusema ifanywe na deputy kama hajakuwa gazetted. Lazima ukuwe gazetted ndio upewe hio nguvu ya kufanya hio kazi)," the Kiambu governor said.
His words came days after Dr Nyoro called a press conference saying that he was the governor albeit in acting capacity until Waititu's case is determined.
The governor and his deputy have been embroiled in ongoing supremacy wrangles that have threatened to disrupt service delivery.
Waititu was released last week after spending time behind bars over a raft of corruption charges unsealed in an indictment by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
He has strongly rebuffed the charges, saying that they are aimed at silencing him and slowing down his political activities.
