Last Friday, Deputy President William Ruto cancelled a tour to Nyamira despite having indicated that he would attend Governor John Nyagarama son's burial in Borabu.
Instead, Ruto proceeded with his second function of the day in Kakamega and Busia.
A police source intimated that planned protests at the burial that also targeted Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i played an integral role.
"We had intelligence information that a few youths had planned to heckle Matiang'i and the DP over the ongoing corruption wars.
"And as a procedure, we shared this with the Nairobi team and that led to cancellation of his trip at the eleventh hour," said the officer.
Ruto was expected to reunite with ODM leader Raila Odinga, who was also among the mourners in the Friday's funeral.
For Matiang'i, he decided to interchange his program by temporarily passing through the funeral, which was just 5 KM from his Borabu home before jetting to Bobasi.
Initially, the minister was set to go for the fund drive before finishing his tight schedule at the funeral.
During the event, Raila vowed to work closely with President Uhuru Kenyatta to curb graft, preempting plans to have a mega crackdown in future.
Only Nyamira deputy governor Amos Nyaribo suffered humiliation after a section of youths heckled him while addressing mouners.
