A 70-year-old woman who was evicted from her matrimonial home in Omweri village, Keumbu, Nyaribari Chache Constituency has a reason to smile after the Kisii county commissioner intervened in the matter.
Cecilia Njogu was chased away from her husband's home by her co-wife's children two weeks ago, following a disagreement over a piece of land.
Kisii County Commissioner Godfrey Kigochi on Thursday visited the home and ordered that a public baraza be held in the village on Monday, next week, to iron out the differences which led to the eviction of Njogu.
"I will not allow Njogu to be mistreated by her co-wife's children because of land. She produced documents which prove that she was legally married as the first wife to her late husband. Those who evicted her should take her back or they will be sent to jail," said Kigochi.
The commissioner urged chiefs in the county to ensure such cases which occur in the villages are not witnessed in future.
"Chiefs must be on high alert to ensure no widow, widower or orphan is mistreated. I will personally ensure chiefs who fail to serve people well are sacked," he added.
