A human rights organisation based in Mombasa, Haki Africa, has asked the government to stop issuing hourly briefing on the ongoing rescue operation at the Likoni Ferry channel.
Haki Africa executive director Hussein Khalid has said the government and agencies involved in the ongoing rescue operation should focus on the mission.
"Instead of issuing press statements every hour to say nothing, the government should intensify their recovery efforts. Briefs can be given to the family members and few who are working on the recovery," read Haki Africa's post in part.
A number of divers from different government agencies and private divers have camped at the Likoni Ferry channel since Sunday after a car slid from MV Harambee and plunged into the Indian Ocean.
The bodies of a woman and her four-year-old daughter are yet to be recovered.
Haki Africa has also camped at the scene, noting that other ferry users are using the vessels with a lot of fear in them.
"Even ferry user is equally perplexed and are worried riding over the bodies each time the ferry passes," he added.
