A fortnight ago, all five MPs from Nyamira County endorsed Dr Ruto for presidency, arguing that his development record is impeccable.

"They will try to frustrate you but we shall not be intimidated. We shall stand with you because you have shown good will to our people," Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose had said.

Others who backed him include Ben Momanyi (Borabu), Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango), Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango) and Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi.

But despite the support, senior politicians led by Governors John Nyagarama, James Ongwae, Senators Okong'o Mogeni and Sam Ongeri along with Kisii Woman Representative Janet Ong'era, have shown divergent political views.

On Monday, three of the senior leaders openly vowed not to support Ruto with Senator Ongeri castigating those backing the DP.

"What's this hurry for? Why are you moving around like orphans? When the right time comes, we shall guide you on what to do. For now let's support development," he said in reference to Tangatanga.

An MP in Tangatanga who did not wish to be named, said there have been attempts to reach the five leaders but they have all been futile.

"We understand that their voice is important and there are plans to have them on board. However, we are yet to succeed," he said in a phone interview.
