Former Tetu Member of Parliament Ndung'u Gethenji has predicted more tension in the already restless Mt Kenya region in the coming days.
The region has over the last few months appeared unsettled due to the division being witnessed in the Jubilee Party.
Gethenji now argues that more should be expected as a result of the looming transformation, apparently referring to the looming retirement of President Uhuru Kenyatta who is considered the current Mt Kenya kingpin.
The politician opined that Deputy President William Ruto could also be having a hand in the same, and is working hard to ensure that he grabs a chunk of the region's support as he seeks to realise his 2022 presidential bid.
"Tension will continue to mount because 2022 will be a transition election. DP Ruto’s strategy is very simple; he knows he cannot ascend to the presidency without central Kenya," he said on Citizen TV's Day Break show on Monday morning.
Area leaders have been seen to align themselves with the rival 'Tanga Tanga' and 'Kieleweke' camps, which have been involved in verbal exchanges over the past few months.
'Tanga Tanga' which is allied to Ruto has been openly endorsing the DP's presidential bid, in defiance to Uhuru's calls against premature politicking.
Uhuru, on the other hand, seems to be basking in the admiration and protection of 'Kieleweke', which is also in support of his 2018 truce with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
'Tanga Tanga' has also joined hands with Ruto's Rift Valley troops in pushing Uhuru to keep his promise to endorse him (Ruto) while Uhuru has remained mum.
