Machakos County Traffic Commander Abdinasir Harun is nursing serious injuries after he was attacked by thugs on Wednesday night.
The incident was confirmed by Machakos County Police Commander Mohammed Maalim who said the officer is admitted at Nairobi Hospital.
He told journalists on Thursday that Harun had gone to take supper in a local hotel a few kilometres from Machakos town when he was attacked.
"He had gone to the hotel for supper when some people appeared and attacked him," said Maalim.
Maalim said the perpetrators injured Harun and stole his Cesca pistol.
He observed that the officer was from the accident scene that claimed six lives in Muumandu.
"The officer was from the scene of accident where five people died in a road accident along Machakos-Wote road," Maalim told journalists.
Maalim noted that members of the public quickly rushed him to Machakos Level Five Hospital for treatment after the attack.
A report concerning the incident was reported at Machakos Police Station at around midnight.
"The cop was alone, he had driven himself to the venue in a private car clad in plain clothes," he said.
However, the officer was later transferred to Nairobi South Hospital for specialised treatment. His vehicle found outside the hotel was towed to Machakos Police Station.
Maalim confirmed that they have no clue as to who conducted the attack on the officer but investigations have began.
"We are doing investigations into the matter. We are pursuing the cop’s attackers as well as looking for his stolen gun," stated Maalim.
