According to the police, trouble started after one passenger requested to alight from the matatu heading to Nairobi from Nyahururu prompting the driver to stop.

The driver then stepped down to help remove luggage belonging to the passenger.

However, the said passenger turned out to be in cahoots with the other four people who emerged from nowhere and took the vehicle hostage.

The driver and the passengers inboard were ordered to lie down inside the matatu as the robbers drove the vehicle to an unknown location.

The passengers were robbed off their cash, money in their Mpesa and KCB-Mpesa accounts.

According to the police a total of Sh100,000 and electronics were stolen during the incident.

The passengers were then let free without any of them being hurt.

The driver was handed back the vehicle after the robbery where he reported the terrifying incident at Lari police station.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the five gangsters who committed the crime.
