Political analyst David Osiany now says that President Uhuru Kenyatta played a major role in the recent international nominations of opposition leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

Odinga was recently nominated to head the African Union Infrastructure department barely a month before Kalonzo's nomination as a peace envoy to Southern Sudan earlier in the week.

And though Kalonzo's nomination comes under the IGAD umbrella and Raila's under the AU, according to him, the analyst maintained that the duo is in office courtesy of Uhuru's goodwill.

Osiany added that Uhuru's endorsement and approval are compulsory for all nominations of such kind, and cannot, therefore, be pushed out of the picture.

"Ni kweli Uhuru hakuwapa hizo kazi lakini bila ya ruhusa yake hawangekubaliwa (they were nominated at his (Uhuru) mercy, his approval is mandatory in such cases)," he said.

Kalonzo's nomination came barely three days after he reconciled with President Uhuru Kenyatta during the funeral ceremony of his father Peter Mairu in Kitui county.

Kalonzo replaces former Botswana President Festus Mogae who stepped down from the position in August.

The former Vice President is expected to tirelessly work towards realising lasting peace in the troubled African youngest nation in collaboration with other involved bodies and persons.
