The year 2018 has been full of political activities across the country and the political divide.

There are politicians who grabbed and made headlines in 2018 across the divide.

In Garissa, here are the politicians who made political headlines:

1. Aden Duale

The Garissa Township MP is among politicians who hit headlines in 2018.

In July, the Jubilee MP hit headlines over the controversial contraband sugar report that lawmakers rejected.

Duale among other politicians was accused of allegedly lobbying lawmakers to reject the report.

The Leader of Majority in the National Assembly was also accused of allegedly trying to protect Cabinet Secretaries who had been implicated in the sugar report.

The MP, however,  rejected the claims, stating that the sugar report was rejected because it was flawed.

Duale's  name also hit headlines in November when MPs for the third time failed to pass the two- thirds gender Bill despite intensive lobbying and support.

The Garissa MP was forced to seek adjournment on voting on the Bill following quorum hitch.

The Bill required the support of 233 MPs to sail through but only 219 MPs were present in the House.

Duale said the Bill will be re-introduced next year (2019).

2. Ali Bunow Korane

The Garissa Governor hit headlines in 2018 over alleged fake academic papers.

The Governor is battling a court case over alleged fake academic papers.

The Jubilee governor is accused of allegedly presenting a fake MBA degree to the IEBC for clearance during the 2017 general election.

The University of Nairobi (UoN) has since disowned Korane's MBA degree.

The governor has, however, denied owning a degree certificate from the University of Nairobi.

In September, Governor Korane found himself in trouble when he was quizzed by detectives in connection to the attempted murder of former Garissa Finance Executive Idriss Mukhtar.

The governor, however, denied having links to Mukhtar's attempted murder.

The former CECs family claims that Governor Korane was allegedly involved in the attempted murder.

Investigations into the attempted murder are still going on even as the former CEC fights for his life in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The former CeC is receiving specialized treatment in India.

3. Fatuma Gedi

She is the Wajir Women Representative serving her second term in office.

She is among vocal female Somali politicians in the country.

Gedi hit headlines in July over the contraband sugar report.

She was accused of allegedly bribing  MPs to reject the report.

A section of MPs claimed that Gedi dished out money to some lawmakers to reject the sugar report.

It was alleged that Gedi gave out bribes to some MPs in toilets at the Parliament Buildings.

Gedi,  however,  refuted the claims saying that they were meant to tarnish her name.

The MP said that she only lobbied her colleagues to reject the sugar report but did not dish out bribes.

The bribery allegations are under investigation.

On December 19, Gedi found herself in trouble after a sex tape allegedly involving her and an unidentified man went viral online.

The sex video went viral across all social media platforms.

Gedi, has, however, distanced herself from the sex video clip.

The MP says that her rivals are out to tarnish her name and weaken her politically.

A section of women politicians has defended Gedi over the sex tape with detectives probing the authenticity of the video and the person behind it.
