Confirming the incident, area assistant Chief Moses Obae said the deceased, Victor Mochere died at a playing field where he was playing with other children.

The balloon reportedly burst in his mouth and he accidentally swallowed it.

“The deceased was playing with his colleagues when a balloon they were playing with burst and entered the deceased mouth,” said Obae.

Obae added that the boy collapsed instantly after swallowing the balloon.

He said residents who responded the screams raised by the deceased's colleagues rushed him to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“Mochere could not survive since the balloon blocked the breathing system which led him to collapse mysteriously. His body was taken to Kisii Teaching and referral hospital mortuary awaiting burial,” he noted.

The chief urged parents to be cautious about what their children are playing with. He stated that some of the toys children play with could cause death.
