Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama has cautioned county enforcement officers after several Motorbike Boda boda operators raised concerns of harassment by the officers.
Speaking outside Kericho Driving School on Monday when he issued driving licenses to a batch of 500 operators who have undergone training, the MP said it was wrong for county enforcement officers to harass youth who have met all the requirements.
While citing an incident in which a section of innocent youths were arrested and detained in his constituency after fracas between matatu operators and police, the MP vowed to raise the matter with the office of the governor so that such ills can come to an end.
“It is wrong for enforcement officers to harass Boda Boda operators who have met all the requirements. In fact, I will be raising the matter with the Governor,” said Arama.
He also called on the Boda Boda operators to shun social crimes warning them against driving while under the influence of alcohol and ferrying excess passengers.
Over 2000 youths from Nakuru West have benefited from the training program and received driving licenses. According to the MP, this is in a bid to empower young people and ensure they are self-reliant.
He says the skills that the riders have acquired will better their work and help them comply with traffic rules.
“Now that you have the licenses going through training, make sure you use them well and avoid engaging in social crimes,” said the MP.
The Legislator also took the moment to hit out at political leaders who are claiming the war on graft is targeting their communities.
Arama has maintained that those who steal public funds meant for development are enemies of development and enemies of society.
“Those who steal, they do so as individuals and not communities where they come from and therefore they should carry their own cross,” said Arama.
