A day after Kikuyu Council of Elders from Nyeri insisted that they will not give DP William Ruto automatic support in 2022, more cracks seems to emerge within the ruling Jubilee party.
Even with the latest U-turn by the elders, already, a group of Ruto's allies have hinted forming a different political party amid chaos within Jubilee.
"We shall look for another vehicle. We cannot support people who are targeting us. We cannot dine with our enemies," said Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei.
Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen has also blamed a section of individuals within the OP as the main detractors of Ruto's 2022 bid.
And the Council of Elders through Peter Munga now wants Ruto to retire along with President Uhuru Kenyatta, despite having promised to back the DP in 2022.
"As a council of elders, we know that Ruto has a pact with Uhuru. If Uhuru has to leave office in 2022, then he must also leave.
"He should be satisfied with the 10 years he has served as DP. If he has given his best with the boss, then there is nothing new he will offer. In fact, he has been getting his share," he said.
The latest pronouncement could further split Jubilee party even as the DP insists that he will be on ballot in 2022.
Throughout their campaigns last year, Uhuru promised to have Mt. Kenya backing Ruto's bid after having supported him in three elections.
