Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday made a surprise but silent stop in Kisumu before proceeding for Kuria East and West constituencies in Migori.
The DP who has not been frequent in the region largely allied to opposition leader Raila Odinga reportedly met a group of selected youth, in line with his 2022 presidential bid.
He asked the group to back his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in a very brief deliberation meeting.
In Migori, Ruto dangled the development carrot, promising among others, the government’s plans to build and equip technical training institutes in Mabera (Kuria West) and Kandege in Kuria East.
He said that the government has since allocated 200 million shillings for the projects, adding that the state will as well pay 30,000 shillings for the institutions’ students, in a move to empower the youth.
“We want our youth to get skills and knowledge to be self-reliant. That is why we have embarked on the construction of the technical institutes at Mabera and Kendege,” he is quoted by the Standard.
The Kisumu visit comes barely 3 weeks after he made another secret stopover in the region, where he also reportedly met a section of leaders.
