Memories of the tight race between Kevin Okwara and incumbent Janet Rotich are still fresh in the minds voters from Turbo constituency.
It was one of the closest parliamentary races in the Kenyan history witnessed in the 2017 polls.
Okwara, who doubles up as a close confidant of Deputy President William Ruto lost narrowly to the Rotich.
Following the closely contested race, it has emerged that Okwara has shifted his focus to LUgari constituency, a source who requested for anonymity and is privy to this disclosed to Hivisasa.
He is determined to vie for the Lugari parliamentary seat in the 2022 polls.
So, what could have prompted the DP’s ally to shift focus from the DP’s home turf?
First, the electorate here is fond of electing their one of their own to represent them.
It would have been a little bit hard for the DP to convince them to vote for Okwara who hails from Mulembe land.
Besides, the political tides in Uasin Gishu County have proved too strong for Okwara to cope with them.
Being a newcomer in this game, Okwara might have just noticed in advance how difficult it would have been for him to ouster Rotich in 2022.
Another reason could be the level of political circus in the DP’s home turf and more bonding between Ruto and the incumbent Turbo MP.
Political pundits have described Okwara’s move as tactical and well-calculated to guarantee him a bright political future.
The big question remains, will he dethrone incumbent Lugari MP, Ayub Savula?
