Mr Gichana, who spent five years in Tanzania prison over money laundering and fraud, revealed for the first time how Raila came up with the idea of rescuing him from jail.

"His RT Hon Raila Amollo. You relentlessly fought for my release. Several times you spoke to Magufuli until you came up with the Idea that set me up free.

"You personally contributed also for the fine money and you simply asked how much was the balance? My political mentor RAO."https://www.facebook.com/1673492782888202/posts/2213890935515048/.

Mr Odinga reportedly urged Bosco to plead guilty for a lesser sentence after his lengthy negotiations with President John Magufuli of Tanzania.

And in September, a Tanzania court fined Don Bosco Sh15 million as fine on top of sentencing him to five years in prison, which he had already served in remand.

Throughout his stay in Tanzania, Raila was often in contact with authorities until he managed to negotiate for Bosco's release.

During the hotly contested 2007 presidential polls, Don Bosco Gichana is credited by gifting Mr Odinga with the famous Hammer for campaigns.
