Haji says that he missed the fundraiser because he had a public event in Garissa Town.

Senator Haji said that claims that he purposefully missed the fund-raiser are misleading.

"I was engaged in other important public activities with our governor and could not make to the fund-raiser," he told journalists in Garissa Town on Tuesday.

Haji said that his absence at the fund-raiser does not mean that he is not supporting Muktar's recovery.

"Idriss is like my son and we are doing everything to help him get better," the Jubilee senator said.

Haji asked politicians to stop making comments that could cause disunity among Garissa locals.

Haji along with Garissa Governor Ali Korane skipped the Sunday fund-raiser held at Nairobi's White Star Restaurant.

Governor Korane, however, sent his contribution of two million shillings towards Mukhtar's medical fund.

The fundraiser was led by Garissa Township MP Aden Duale and attended by top leaders among them East Africa Community Cabinet Secretary (CS) Adan Mohamed.

The leaders managed to raise over two million shillings towards Mukhtar's medical bills.

Mukhtar survived an attempted murder on August 18 and is battling for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Nairobi hospital.
