In video footage played in court on Wednesday, a witness identified two young men who were in the company of Mohamed Hussein Aden and Juliet Njoki (prime suspects charged in court) at a local hotel in Ngara, Nairobi.

The witness, a military officer,  told the court that Aden invited the two young men to a meeting he attended and tasked them to hunt down for Mukhtar in Nairobi's South C area.

In the footage, Njoki and Aden are seen introducing the two young men to John Wanjohi, a military officer who is a witness in the case.

According to the prosecution, Mwai (the slain suspect) is one of the young men captured on the CCTV footage.

The other man is still at large as investigations into the attempted murder continue.

Mwai allegedly confessed to having been hired to kill Mukhtar and his lawyer Charles Kanjama.

He, however, committed suicide at the Parklands police station in September 2018.

Detectives say that investigations into the attempted murder are still on.

Garissa Governor Ali Korane is among suspects who were quizzed in connection to the incident.

Mukhtar is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and has a bullet lodged in his head.
