The Government is targeting to have 136 million trees planted in Western Kenya, Environment Cabinet Secretary Judy Wakhungu has said.
Speaking at Kakamega Forest, the CS encouraged Kenyans to plant trees in order to achieve a 10 per cent forest cover by 2030.
"Increasing forest cover will slow down global warming, replenish ground water and improve habitat," she said.
Wakhungu asked the county governments and non-governmental organisations to join hands in efforts to conserve the environment.
"Conservation is a universal responsibility. The country will reap big from this initiative with regard to enhanced food production, availability of quality water and protection of forests and their treasures," said the CS.
