The Wajir County Government has confirmed that cases of a cholera outbreak in the county have been managed.
The Health Services Chief Officer Ahmed Garaat has dispelled fears of a further outbreak of the disease in the county. The outbreak, which was first reported in May, has led to the death of nine people.
The county government has also confirmed that 495 persons have been infected with the disease since its outbreak was announced. Garaat, however, said that the government has put in place the necessary measures to ensure that cases of infection are as minimal as possible.
“The situation across Wajir is calm compared to the recent past and since May when the disease was first reported in Tarbaj Sub-County,” he said, as quote the Daily Nation.
He also noted that the reported deaths occurred outside the county's health facilities, adding that the county government is committed to protecting the lives of residents.
He also asked the locals to support both the county and national government in the quest for better treatment of those affected. He also reiterated the need for patients to report to health facilities in time.
“The recent deaths that happened three days ago happened outside the health facilities but we ensured we got all the sick persons and any suspected case to the treatment centres,” he said.
The official also said that the county government has been receiving support from different corners, adding that they are grateful for the same.
