It now emerges that some county assemblies in the nation have been turned into cash-cows where Members of County Assembly (MCAs) and other top county officials manipulate and trick their way to riches.
One of these is the troubled Homabay County Assembly where theft of public funds is rather open and done in a shameless manner, only that it is given a better name.
According to House Majority Leader Walter Muok, the house is documented to be using Sh300, 000 every month to prepare tea for workers, though no worker eats or drinks at work.
He further noted that the county uses Sh35, 000 to cut the grass at the assembly, which is fully tiled, as a scheme by someone somewhere to defraud the county.
“None of the workers at the Assembly drink tea or eat from work. The funds for this service were pocketed by someone,” he told Mediamax Digital on Tuesday.
Muok said that the members have since invoked the intervention of an auditor to unearth the pattern of embezzlement playing out in the county, in a bid to save the county from further fraud.
