The firing of former Sports Minister Rashid Echesa was the main talking point during the mini-cabinet reshuffle President Uhuru Kenyatta made on Friday.
Questions were raised as to whether the President fired Echesa for being corrupt after allegations emerged linking him to fake billions found in Ruiru or did Raila Odinga, whom Echesa at one point dared to sack him, influenced the decision.
Political analyst Dr Onyango Ochieng Jnr, however, notes that Echesa's firing was because he could not understand policymaking at the ministry.
According to the analyst, the President made the decision because he wants to leave a legacy and hence wants leaders with a proven track record.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta is setting a legacy. When you want to set a legacy you go for perfect dependency according to strategic plan management. People who are tried, tested and experience accumulated over time, " said Dr Ochieng.
The analyst argued Echesa did not qualify on merit in the first place to be a Cabinet Secretary because his a[[roval was based on his track record as a boxer and nothing on his academic qualifications.
The analyst further holds the opinion that in as much as Echesa dared Raila to sack him, his firing was purely instigated by his performance and not politics.
