Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i has given driving schools across the country until July 1 to undergo re-validation by the National Transports and Safety Authority (NTSA).
Matiang’i says that driving institutions that will not submit to the re-validation exercise will be de-registered.
On Thursday, the CS tweeted saying, “By July 1, 2019, all driving schools must undergo revalidation by @NTSA Kenya. Institutions that won’t submit to the exercise will be deregistered.”
Matiang’i in his tweet added, “This is one of our time-bound and strategy-led targets in our quest for an effective road safety management system for our country.”
The Interior CS at the same time said he has directed the NTSA to immediately begin reassessing and issuing inspection stickers to all companies offering car towing and recovery services in the country.
He said the exercise is meant to get rid of rogue and unprofessional operators.
The NTSA has since summoned management of all driving schools across the country in the process to register them afresh.
The Transport Authority claims that incompetence by some drivers has largely contributed to increased cases of road accidents.
According to NTSA, majority of driving institutions equip their learners with poor quality education and the agency now says it will not relent in ensuring sanity on Kenyan roads.
